SDS Models
Pretty model with good proportions except for the fact that they feel light. They may be ok, almost certainly are, however the Orient Models Productions OBF weighs almost exactly the same, and does need a metal weight that is placed on the floor (neat fit) of an unloaded wagon, it is painted to hide it away. I will let you know how these go without the extra weight.
Interestingly I started to compare the Auscision GY to the SDS one and got a fright when I saw the difference in the leaf spring suspension, but as usual Steve and the fellas at SDS got it right.. See here.. EDIT: The Auscision GY leaf springs are also correct and match the version of the GY they modeled. I did not realize the springs varied over the different series of wagons.

ReplyDeleteI looked at several photos of GY wagons and it seems to me that there were different types of leaf spring suspensions. Differing with the underframe type. So it seems to me that both Auscision and SDS got it right.
Sh*t! I didn't realize some might take it that way! Nothing wrong with the look of the Auscision GY's. Yes they are correct too. What I meant to convey was that the SDS GY did indeed have different leaf spring arrangement to the Auscision version. I will edit it and make it clearer :(

Rod. I too bought an SDS GY wagon & thought it is a bit light. (I bought a single model off eBay). I added a few thin pieces of lead underneath the wagon below the side doors then painted them similar colour to the wagon. Still a bit light.... Your modeling is Excellent. Thanks.
